A 10 man NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers have fallen to Melbourne City 1-0 at AAMI Park on Friday night.

A great strike by City’s Ivan Franjic gave the home team all three points on a night where the Wanderers played with one less for more than an hour after Aritz Borda’s dismissal.

A subsequent formation change and substitution followed with Jumpei Kusukami making way for Robbie Cornthwaite to bolster the back.

The Wanderers fought bravely and continued to play positively throughout the contest but were unable to find an equalizer against a stingy City defence.

Substitute Lachlan Scott had the biggest chance for an equaliser with a shot that flashed across the face of the goal in the final minutes of the match.

Despite the result, the Red & Black will be buoyed by the performances of debutant goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic who made some very important saves and youngster Jonathon Aspropotamities who continued his strong 2016/17 season.

The Wanderers now look to re-group ahead of next week’s Sydney Derby at Allianz Stadium.
