The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers have been beaten 2-1 by Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.

After Jumpei Kusukami had cancelled out Brendon Borrello’s opener, it was a last-minute goal by Brett Holman that secured all three points for the Roar.

Keeper Vedran Janjetovic made some fantastic saves in the opening minutes to ensure the Wanderers were kept in the contest, in particular denying Jamie Maclaren from close range.

Jumpei Kusukami made his way into the box after youngster Lachlan Scott sent a smart cross across the face of the goal but his shot was deflected and cleared to safety.

The Roar took the lead when a Daniel Bowles cross caused chaos in the box, allowing Borrello to tap home a loose ball.

The Wanderers were quick to fight back and equalise after a Mitch Nichols cut-back allowed Kusukami to slam the ball past Michael Theo.

Terry Antonis looked lively in his Wanderers debut after coming off the bench but the Red & Black would soon go down to 10-men after Scott Neville received his second yellow card for a foul on Manuel Arana.

Brisbane snatched all three-points in the final minutes of the match after Holman’s strike from long-range got the better of Janjetovic.

The Wanderers will now look to bounce back on Saturday against Wellington Phoenix.
