The 21-year-old joined the Wanderers back in 2014, signing for the club’s Foxtel Y-League team before making his Hyundai A-League debut against Melbourne City in Round 10 of the 2014/15 season.
Aspropotamitis signed his first senior contract with the club in May 2015 and a breakthrough season a year later saw the defender become an integral part of the Wanderers backline, making 29 appearances across all competitions.
In the past season, Aspropotamitis helped the club’s Foxtel Y-League squad to its first ever Foxtel Y-League Championship.
The defender leaves Western Sydney to pursue another opportunity in the Hyundai A-League, having made 53 appearances across all competitions for the Red & Black.
Aspropotamitis said he will always look back fondly on his four seasons as a Wanderer.
“I was very fortunate to be given the opportunity by the club to play at such a young age in the first team and then to represent the club in the Asian Champions League was fantastic,” he said.
“I’ll be forever grateful for the chance that the club gave me until the day I retire. The club’s done great things for me and the club will continue to grow, no doubt about that.”
Aspropotamitis said his time with the club has been invaluable in helping him grow as a player.
“From day one it was all about improvement for myself and showing that I could be a consistent player at such a high level and I was lucky that I had a good coaching staff around me and great players around me to support me and help me through that process of getting better all the time.
“Now it’s just about progressing and looking forward to the next step in my career.”
Western Sydney Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas thanked Aspropotamitis for his time and efforts at the club.
“It has been great to watch Jonathan’s journey through the club’s Academy system and into the first grade team,” said Tsatsimas.
“We would like to thank him for his contribution to the club over the past four years and wish him all the best in the next stage of his career.”
