Western Sydney Wanderers coach Markus Babbel admits he’s not sure when his side will click completely with the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season set to commence next week.
The 46-year-old was appointed Wanderers boss back in May and has been charged with bringing the Red and Black back into title contention.
And although Babbel says his side have improved significantly since his arrival, he can’t put a timestamp on when the Hyundai A-League 2012/13 Premiers return back to the summit of Australian football.
“This is a process, I don’t know how long it takes… because if I came to now we did a big improvement,” he said.
“If we can go in the same pace until the next three months that would be great and definitely a big step forward.
“But I don’t know. The only thing that I can say is that we work on this. We’re working hard on this and the players know what we want and keep going on this.”
The former German international has brought two quality compatriots from his home nation to Western Sydney in commanding centre-back Patrick Ziegler and ex-Bayern Munich attacker Alexander Baumjohann.
The pair make up part of a talented roster across the park for the Wanderers this season, but Babbel insists his new charges must look to develop their mental game in order to achieve their potential under his tutelage.
“Talent is one thing, you know but mentality is the other thing. If both comes together then it’s perfect,” he continued.
“Only talent, you win nothing. The I prefer mentality because with mentality you can do fantastic things.
“That’s what I said, if both come together then it’s the perfect thing.”
