Midfielder Keanu Baccus on the intensity of the Sydney Derby and what we can expect from our cross-city rivals on Saturday night.

Baccus and the Wanderers head into the match after a confident 2-1 victory over the Newcastle Jets last Friday night.

“There were a lot of positives to take from the match. Just to get back to winning ways ahead of a Derby is great,” said Baccus.

“I think we performed well as a team (against Macarthur as well) and we were unlucky to not get the result that day. A win helps in a big game.

“I definitely think we needed the two weeks to gel with all the new players, it was a good win in our last game against Newcastle.”

The Red & Black have switched their attention this week to the blockbuster Sydney Derby at Stadium on Saturday night.

The Wanderers defeated Sydney in two of the three fixtures last season with Baccus looking to repeat the feat.

“All the Sydney teams want to beat each other and it’ll be a great honour to win so early in the season,” said Baccus.

“Sydney FC have been a good team over the last couple of years and last year we got the better of them. If we can do the same this season that would be great.

“I think it’s always a big game a Derby, especially against Sydney, and we’re going to grow in every part of the game.

“A Derby is always a bit more special but we want to treat every game similar and win every game this season.”
