Cooney-Cross nominated for Young Footballer Of The Year Award

Wanderer Kyra Cooney-Cross has been nominated for the Westfield W-League’s Young Footballer Of The Year Award.

A Ballarat City junior, Cooney-Cross burst onto the W-League scene at the start of the s 2017/18 season when she signed for Melbourne Victory as a 16-year old. 

In her debut season at the club, the creative midfielder featured in all 12 matches, scoring two goals.

Part of last season’s Westfield W-League Premiers Plate winning squad, Cooney-Cross has been a regular in the Young Matildas squad and joined this season’s teammates Courtney Nevin and Susan Phonsongkham at the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship.

The talented midfielder joined the Red & Black this season, featuring in all 13 matches,  and was pivotal in the Wanderers’ success in reaching their very first Finals Series of the competition.

Cooney-Cross scored four goals, made three assists, and had 15 key passes.
