Western Sydney Wanderers FC are delighted to announce the re-signing of defender Caitlin Cooper for the Westfield W-League 2020/21 season.

The defender has been part of the national competition since its inaugural season, starting her career with the Central Coast Mariners before making the switch to the Wanderers in 2013, where she was named the captain a season later.

Despite picking up a freak injury during a Matildas match at the start of the 2015/16 season, Cooper came back stronger than ever and an impressive season a year later saw her named the Wanderers Westfield W-League Player of the Year.

A solid defender and leader both on and off the pitch, Cooper featured in 10 matches for the Wanderers last season and scored one goal.

Western Sydney Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas said that Cooper’s re-signing is instrumental in the Wanderers going one further this season.

“Our head coach Dean Heffernan is in the process of building another strong W-League team and it’s great to have Caitlin back with us for another season,” said Tsatsimas.

“We want to improve on last season’s results and I have no doubt that Caitlin will be a driving force in both helping us break more records and achieve our goals.”

Looking to build on last season, Cooper said she has unfinished business with the club.

“The main reason that drove me to re-sign with the club was that I wanted to finish off what we started last year,” said Cooper.

“What head coach Dean Heffernan and his assistants Michael Beauchamp and Catherine Cannuli created is something that the Wander Women have lacked in previous years.

“As one of the older players, I want to mentor the next generation of Wanderers and help them to be the best player and person they can be.

“On a team level, I really want us to build on what we created last season and I hope we can make everyone proud of our achievements.

“The new facilities that our team had access to at the club’s Centre of Football also gave it a different feel to last season.

“I believe that if we put in as much hard work and show the passion that we had last season, there’s no reason why we can’t go one further this time around.”
