Wanderers forward Simon Cox has hit the ground running and has his sights set on getting on the scoresheet in the Red & Black’s charge to the Finals.

Having only been with the Wanderers since January this year, Cox has had a whirlwind of experiences in his first season of the Hyundai A-League competition.

The striker returned home to the United Kingdom during the suspension period and recently linked back with the team at training after spending two weeks in hotel quarantine.

“In the room (during hotel quarantine), I would do sort of one high-intensity interval session and as much as I could throughout the day,” said Cox.

“But now I’m here, I’m obviously trying to play a bit of catch-up.”

“It’s good to be back amongst the boys, you know getting back out there to kick a ball again.

“Two weeks isolation plus the two or three months off, you’ve got to get the cobwebs out as quickly as possible.

“Then you start looking forward to the games when we restart again.”

Cox

Cox made an immediate impact upon his arrival to the Red & Black, scoring in the Wanderers 3-1 win against the Mariners at Central Coast Stadium.

Scoring two goals in his last seven games, the powerful centre-forward believes the best of his performances are yet to come with the climate now being on his side.

“I would like to get another couple of goals, before now and the end of the season,” noted Cox.

“Then obviously if we get into Finals, hopefully, get one or two in there.

“I just feel like I think obviously before we had the break, the heat, the weather, that sort of stuff now it’s more English-type weather so it’s quite nice for me. So I feel like I’d be a bit more acclimatized to this weather than I was in the 40-degree heat.

“Even though the break came at probably a bad time for us, I feel like, from all reports I’ve got back from when I was in isolation, the boys have been first class.

“So I feel like we’ll just hit the ground running again straight away.”

The Wanderers will take on Melbourne Victory in their first game back on Wednesday 22 July. See all the fixtures here.
