Dimas: Belief key to ACL redemption

Skipper Dimas Delgado expects the Western Sydney Wanderers to produce a vastly improved performance in this week’s AFC Champions League clash against FC Seoul.

After enjoying the weekend off due to the split round in the Hyundai A-League, Western Sydney’s ACL campaign resumes midweek with a trip to Korea to tackle FC Seoul.

Heavy losses to Urawa (4-0) and Shanghai SIPG (5-1) to start the continental competition, the task doesn’t get any easier against the reigning K-League Champions.

Dimas on the Wanderers’ ACL campaign

“The big difference is the foreigners. They sign whoever they want and it’s difficult to compete against these teams because we have a salary cap. We can’t compete.

“As a team we can compete and I think the important thing is we need to make sure we take control of these top few players. If we can face everything like a team, we have an opportunity.

“The week was good. We trained properly every day. We need to beat them and I think everything is clear, our minds are clear, and I think we are prepared to face this challenge.

“For us it’s important to be in the ACL, so now we need to enjoy the competition and I know we can compete against everyone. We need to stay calm and believe in our football.”
