Five Wanderers feature in Young Socceroos match against Japan

Wanderers John Roberts, Mohamed Adam, Nick Suman, Noah Pagden and Samuel Silvera all featured in the Young Socceroos’ opening match in the SBS Cup against Japan last night.

Despite the side being edged out 1-0 by Japan, there were many positives to take from the match with all five Wanderers selected in the squad getting valuable game time.

The Wanderers representation of five players in the squad is the largest selection of players from a single club and marks another successful chapter in the Wanderers Academy’s short history.

The Young Socceroos did have claims for a penalty waved away in the first half, while Japan’s Kai Trewin went close with a header after the interval.

In the end, Miyashiro’s unerring low finish was all that split the teams, leaving the Young Socceroos searching for a quick response against Paraguay at 7:30pm on Friday.

The group – all of whom are 18 or younger – then round off the four-team tournament with a clash against Shizuoka Selection Team on Sunday.
