Foxtel Y-League Preview: Newcastle v Wanderers

The Wanderers Foxtel Y-League team start their weekend with a trip up the motorway to play Newcastle Jets at No.2 Sportsground on Friday evening.

The Red & Black need a victory to stay in touch with the top of Y-League Group B and the boys are keen to get back to winning ways following defeats in their last two games.

Newcastle enter this round sitting in third place and will be fresh after last weekend’s match against Central Coast Mariners was postponed.

Their last outing was a 6-1 victory over Canberra United and the Wanderers need to be wary of Jets forward Kosta Petratos, who scored twice against the side from the nation’s capital.

Wanderers defender Thomas Aquilina could be a very important player on Friday.

The 18-year-old recently returned to our Academy after spending the second half of the 2019 NPL season with Sutherland Sharks.

Capable of playing at right-back or centre back, Aquilina was also a part of the Young Socceroos squad which recently qualified for next year’s AFC Under-19 Championship.

Another player to watch is Jarrod Carluccio, who has started in all of the Wanderers’ Foxtel Y-League games this season.

The Blacktown Spartans junior has been a part of our Academy since its formation in 2016, winning Grand Finals with the U18 and U20 teams.

Still only 18, this year Carluccio established himself as a regular starter in the NPL 2 Academy side and was rewarded for his performances with a call-up to the Young Socceroos.
