Foxtel Y-League Preview: Sydney Derby

On Sunday morning, Western Sydney Wanderers will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Foxtel Y-League when they meet Sydney FC at Lambert Park.

The match is expected to be a tight battle after the two teams split last season’s games, with the Red & Black winning 3-1 at Marconi Stadium in December 2017, while Sydney FC had a 2-0 victory at Lambert Park back in January.

Sydney FC have been in good form,  having won their opening two games. Striker Luke Ivanovic will be one of their main threats after scoring twice in last weekend’s 4-0 win over Canberra United, while the Red & Black will also need to look out for Marco Tilio, who grabbed a double in their Round 1 victory over Newcastle Jets.

For the Wanderers, Oliver Puflett will be looking to build on a good performance after scoring with a spectacular volley in last week’s match.

Normally played as a winger, the 19-year-old has been with the Wanderers Academy since 2016  and was also part of the Young Socceroos squad that competed in last month’s AFC U19 Championship, scoring in their 1-1 draw with Jordan.

Another Wanderer to watch is goalkeeper Nicholas Suman.

The 18-year-old made his Foxtel Y-League debut for the club in 2015 at the age of just 15.

Suman played in the Wanderers 2017/18 Y-League Grand Final victory in February and has also received international recognition, travelling to Japan with the Australia Under-18 squad in August for the SBS Cup.
