Foxtel Y-League Preview: Sydney Derby

The Wanderers Foxtel Y-League side will be looking to make it two wins from two this Saturday night when they take on Sydney FC at Marconi Stadium.

The Red & Black’s last meeting with Sydney FC at Maroni was back in January 2019 and it was a successful one.

The Wanderers progressed to that year’s Foxtel Y-League Grand Final after goals from Mohamed Adam and John Roberts secured a 2-1 win.

There may well be a familiar face lining up for the opponents on Saturday. Former Wanderers youth goalkeeper Thomas Heward-Belle was between the sticks for the Sky Blues in their last Y-League outing, a 5-3 victory over Central Coast Mariners in late December.

After an excellent Y-League debut last Saturday where he scored the only goal of the game, Wanderers attacker Peter Grozos is definitely a player to watch in the future.

The APIA Leichhardt junior spent the majority of last year with Wanderers U20s side before being selected for this season’s Y-League squad. Grozos is only 16 years old and usually plays as a winger or an attacking midfielder.

Jacob Vasiliou is another one to keep an eye on after a solid performance on the weekend.

The 18-year-old, who is comfortable as a centre forward or on either wing, signed for the Red & Black in 2018. After spending time with the U20s, Vasiliou is now a regular part of the senior Academy side.
