After a bye in the opening round of the campaign, the Wanderers Foxtel Y-League campaign begins this Saturday afternoon when the Red & Black host Canberra United at Marconi Stadium.

The Wanderers have a history of success in this competition, winning the 2017/18  Championship and backing that up with another Grand Final appearance earlier this year.

The Red & Black will be looking to repeat their performance from the last time we played Canberra.

Mohamed Adam scored a double in a 4-0 victory back in December 2018, with Fabian Monge and Andrea Agamemnonos also getting on the scoresheet.

The promotion of several Academy players onto scholarship contracts has given a chance at this level to some of the younger players to be given the opportunity to step up.

One of those players is Dean Pelekanos, who signed for the Red & Black at the start of this year after playing junior football for Blacktown City.

Capable of playing in defence or midfield, Pelekanos was an ever-present in the Wanderers U20 side in 2019 and was also a part of the Australian Schoolboys team that toured the United Kingdom & Ireland last January.

Yousef Sawalha is another player to keep an eye on.

The midfielder joined the Wanderers Academy in 2016 and has steadily made his way up through the ranks.

This year, the former Football NSW Institute player recorded an impressive tally of 12 goals in 26 appearances, at one point scoring in six consecutive games to help the Wanderers reach the NPL 2 U20 Grand Final.

Entry to this game is free for all Wanderers members.
