Foxtel Y-League Preview: Wanderers vs Mariners

The Western Sydney Wanderers are looking to make it two wins from two in the Foxtel Y-League as we host Central Coast Mariners on Saturday afternoon at Marconi Stadium.

The Wanderers will be looking to make amends for the last time they faced the Central Coast Mariners in the Foxtel Y-League, back in January as goals from Mohamed Adam and Samuel Silvera were not enough as the Wanderer went down 3-2.

The Mariners boast a couple of former Wanderers Academy players in their squad. Peter Kekeris, who played for the U18 side in 2016 scored in Central Coast’s last game, a 3-1 defeat to Newcastle Jets.

Central Coast are also able to call on Mario Shabow, who spent two years in the Academy set-up before joining the Mariners earlier this year.

For the Red & Black, John Roberts will be one to watch after a strong showing on Saturday against Canberra where he netted the winning goal.

Roberts joined the Wanderers in January after singing from Melbourne City and scored against his former club in the 2018 Foxtel Y-League Grand Final victory.

Able to play as either winger or striker, the 17-year-old was also part of the Young Socceroos squad for last month’s AFC Under-19 Championship.

Fabian Monge is another Wanderers player coming off a good performance on the weekend.

The central midfielder is now in his second season with the Wanderers Academy and will be in familiar territory on Saturday, having played his junior football for Marconi Stallions.

Like Roberts, Monge is still only 17-years-old and has also played for the Young Socceroos.

Entry to Saturday’s game is free for all Wanderers members.
