For the third time this week, the Red & Black are back in action at ANZ Stadium on Tuesday night.

Following on from Saturday’s match against Melbourne Victory, the Wanderers have had a very quick turnaround to prepare for Tuesday night’s fixture.

It’s been a testing start to the Wanderers campaign in 2019 with the club struggling to gain momentum despite some very positive signs.

Tuesday night’s next test comes in the form of Wellington Phoenix who have shown that they are completely different animal this Hyundai A-League campaign having made massive strides under new head coach Mark Rudan.

Phoenix’s draw against Melbourne Victory has become the market of Phoenix’s impressive season so far, going toe-to-toe with some of the league’s leaders.

Moreover, it demonstrates that Wellington are not only ultra-competitive under Rudan, but are turning up to some of the biggest tests on the Hyundai A-League calendar with a clear game plan – and are executing it.

The last time these two sides met, the Wanderers cruised to a convincing 3-0 victory over the Phoenix at Westpac Stadium.

Alexander Baumjohann struck inside 11 minutes and Oriol Riera and Jordan O’Doherty notched after half-time to secure the club’s first Hyundai A-League win under new boss Markus Babbel.

The match was a sign of the Wanderers capabilities and their dominance in the midfield from Baumjohann and Roly Bonevacia who deservedly won plenty of plaudits from the match.
