The Community FC Girls Only and Youth program hosted by Southern Districts Football Association’s Fairfield Hotspurs at Prospect View Park, Smithfield, featured some special guests as Western Sydney Wanderers’ W-League Head Coach Dean Heffernan and Assistant Coach Catherine Cannuli attended the memorable evening on Thursday 25th of July.
A program that has been running since May at Smithfield, players from this program will transition into either SDSFA summer football competitions or the 2020 Football Winter Season.
The beauty about the participants featured in this program is that all players are from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and newly arrived backgrounds.
The session started with a Q&A with the two coaches followed by both coaches running a session for the two groups of players.
The session highlighted the engagement between all levels of football namely, Football NSW, Clubs, Associations and A-League/W-League clubs.
Football NSW’s Community Game Development Officer Charlotte Ercil appreciated the time and effort Fairfield Hotspurs as well the local association and CORE Community Services have given to this unique program.
“The program wouldn’t have progressed to where it is without the support of both Fairfield Hotspurs, SDSFA and CORE Community Services.
“The engagement of the Western Sydney Wanderers adds another aspect to the program and having both Dean and Catherine attend the session highlights how keen the club is to get involved in programs like these.”
