The Hyundai A-League will help mobilise the two million strong football family this weekend with a dedicated “Play Football” round to help drive junior registration of Australia-s highest participation sport all over the country.

February sees the start of football-s junior registration period for the winter grassroots season and the five Hyundai A-League matches this weekend will be played under the “Play Football” banner.

“Play Football round is a tremendous initiative that bridges the gap between the elite players in the Hyundai A-League with the mums, dads and kids that represent football-s greatest asset – its grassroots participants,” said FFA CEO David Gallop.

“Football is a sport that is inclusive of all Australian men, women and children, and we are expecting the 2014 registration period to continue football-s growth trajectory. Grassroots level participation levels are as much a part of the Football story as the success of the Hyundai A-League and the qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.”

The Play Football campaign will also include videos from the game-s heroes, including Socceroos and Westfield Matildas stars and Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou.

The 2014 Play Football campaign has been expanded to include a drive for Coaches and Referees, who along with players are the game-s greatest advocates and are two key roles that have a great influence on a player-s experience.

Players, coaches and referees can register to “Play Football” by logging onto Australia’s biggest online sports registration portal, which can be found at MyFootballClub.com.au.

The “Play Football” round also coincides with the launch of MiniRoos, which is a smaller version of football that provides boys and girls aged 4 – 11 with a fun introduction to the world game. MiniRoos it is all about having fun, learning new skills and making life-long friends and will be delivered by grassroots clubs across Australia.
