Chris Ikonomidis and Lachlan Scott headed to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead on Thursday afternoon to participate in the Race for Grace.

The Race for Grace is a 24-hour cycle challenge that aims to raise funds for newborn care.

The Grace Centre for Newborn Intensive Care incorporates the Department of Neonatology, Newborn Intensive Care Unit, Newborn High Dependency Unit, Neonatal Research Group and the Newborn follow-up Clinic providing newborn intensive care, neonatal education, follow-up clinic for high-risk newborns and research.

Together these units treat newborn babies with complex medical conditions and serious cardiac and surgical disorders.

Over one hundred staff are employed to care for 24 babies at any one time and the centre is currently funded to have 10 Intensive care beds and 14 High Dependency beds.

The families of seriously ill babies experience considerable stress and the Grace Centre is committed to their welfare and is reflected in their motto of ‘working with families to achieve the best for their child’.
