Jurman eyeing three points against Wellington

Defender Matthew Jurman on the lessons learnt against the Mariners and our upcoming clash against Wellington on Friday night at Wanderland.

Reflecting on the Red & Black’s rusty result against the Mariners in the club’s first match of the restart, Jurman believes it’s all about focusing on ourselves when it comes to our next fixture.

“We definitely need to keep the ball better, there were times in there (against Central Coast) we were winning it back and then giving it straight away back to the Mariners,” said Jurman.

“Especially for these games with a long break out, it’s important to keep the ball and make sure that when we do have it, we make the most of it and finish our chances as well.

“Those types of things we’ll be working on for the next few games and hopefully we can put in a better performance.”

The Wanderers will face high-flyers Wellington Phoenix who have had a strong season so far, winning 12 of their games this season, sitting second on the ladder.

“Wellington’s had a great season. We know that coming into this game and we just need to take it like any other game,” said Jurman.

“Making sure that we’re doing what we can, to make sure that we get the result and just focus on ourselves really.

“If we start focusing on the opposition too much, we won’t be doing what we need to do. I think the result will come if we do what we need to do.”

The Wanderers will be desperate to get a result against Wellington with any points collected crucial for the Wanderers chances in making the 2020 Finals Series.

“We need to just get maximum points as we can,” explained Jurman.

“Sometimes it’s not even in our own fate, but as long as we’re getting the three points each game, that’s all we can do. The rest is up to the other teams to worry about.

“So we just go out there with the mindset of winning every game.”
