NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers FC has today handed Kwabena Appiah a one year contract extension that will keep the Wanderer-s rising star at the Club until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season.
The lightning fast attacker signed his first professional contract with the Wanderers in 2012 becoming one of the first ever signings for Head Coach Tony Popovic-s inaugural team.
Appiah-Kubi played 13 matches last season, starting in four, including the Hyundai A-League 2013 Grand Final.
At 21 the dedicated and flamboyant winger has proven he is developing into a valuable attacking weapon for Popovic-s team in preparation for their second season.
“Kwabena is an outstanding prospect and a player we are very keen to continue working with and developing,” said Popovic.
“He-s got speed, great skills and is dedicated to improving every day at training.”
While already contracted for the 2013/14 season, the decision to extend was a simple one for both Popovic and the Club.
“We had him locked in for a second season but as you put time and energy into a player you need to make sure you look after your investment,” continued Popovic.
“I-ve said from the beginning what an exciting young player Kwabena is. He-s developing well at the Club and is proving every day what a good professional he is. I look forward to continue working with him to help turn his raw potential into strong performances on the pitch.”
Since earning a start in the season decider, Appiah is keen to press his claims for more minutes this season and continuing to work hard at improving his game which is already beginning to pay dividends.
“It-s one of the major goals I set before the start of pre-season to get re-signed and I was hoping for it towards the end of the season but it-s obviously come now and Popa has already shown a lot of faith in me so I was very happy to re-sign,” said Appiah.
“Being in last year-s Hyundai A-League Grand Final not only gave me confidence on the pitch but it gave me confidence off the pitch and that is what I am trying to show now.”
