The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers have today announced the re-signing of Lachlan Scott with the forward signing a contract extension for a further two seasons, extending his stay with the Wanderers until 2019.

Scott joined the Club’s Academy in 2015 where he led the youth team in goal scoring and impressed enough to be promoted to his first professional contract in May 2016.

It is another sign of the progress being made via the Wanderers Academy pathway which sees the Wanderers’ philosophy instilled from the U13s all the way to the Hyundai A-League team.

A compulsive goal scorer, the 19-year-old already has two first team goals to his name when he scored a double in the Red & Black’s come-from-behind win against Wellington Phoenix at Campbelltown Stadium in the Westfield FFA Cup.

Scott also played a big part in Friday night’s crucial late equaliser against Melbourne City.

Just like one of the Red & Black’s favourite sons, Brendon Santalab, Scott also hails from Wollongong and will now have the opportunity to develop further with the Wanderers.

The forward said signing the contract extension was like another dream come true.

“Earning two more years at the Wanderers is what I wanted to achieve this year and to do that makes me a pretty happy man, now I just need to keep working hard and continue to improve as a player”, said Scott.

“Playing in the first team is everyone’s goal so to be there, to be working hard at training and to be getting on the field, it’s pretty amazing. You get opportunities at this club and as long as you keep proving yourself the opportunities keep coming, it’s the best club to be at as a youngster.

“Popa has done a lot for me: he brought me up from the youth team and had me training with the first team when I was a youth player before giving me the opportunity to sign and prove myself.

“Santalab has also done a lot for me in terms of being an older figure at the club. When I was with the youth team he’d come over and talk to me every day and since I’ve joined the first team he’s taken me out for lunch, had a talk to me about how to be a professional, advice on what I should be eating and a few tips like that.”

Lachlan Scott and the Wanderers continue their season this Friday night when they host Brisbane Roar at Spotless Stadium. Kick-off is at 7:50pm with tickets available from Ticketmaster and at the gate.
