The Westfield Young Matildas have secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Thailand in a friendly at Leichhardt Oval on Friday afternoon.

Two Wanderers featured in the match with Rachel Lowe and Susan Phonsongkham representing the Red & Black.

Second-half goals to Lowe and Amy Sayer proved decisive for the hosts, with Thailand netting a consolation with just under 10 minutes remaining.

In an even first half, both sides created chances but failed to capitalise as the score remained 0-0 at the break.

Australia came out firing after the break and took the lead in the 56th minute with Lowe netting the opener with a long-range strike.

The Aussies nearly doubled their advantage just a minute later with Princess Ibini getting in behind the Thai defence, but Kyra Cooney-Cross couldn’t force the ball home.

But the Young Matildas grabbed a second with just under 15 minutes remaining with Amy Sayer on hand to finish a well-worked team move.

Thailand netted with just under 10 minutes remaining but Australia held firm for a deserved 2-1 win.
