Growing up in Townsville, Matt started his junior football with Ross River FC before attracting the attention of the North Queensland Centre of Excellence.
From there, the goalkeeper played for Rebels FC and Northern Fury FC in the Queensland NPL, representing Queensland in the Schoolboys team playing in Canberra in 2013.
Matt moved to Sydney in 2014 and appeared for the Sydney FC Foxtel NYL team during the 2014/15 season before joining the Red & Black for the 2015/16 season after a stint with Maccabi Hakoah in the NSW NPL.
The Queenslander made his NYL debut against Central Coast Mariners in Round 7.
