The NRMA Western Sydney Wanderers FC wish to refute the assertion made in today-s Sydney press that the club was “waiting in the wings” to sign Alessandro Del Piero if his agreement with Sydney FC had not been concluded.
“The unsubstantiated statement is unfair to the Wanderers, Sydney FC and Alessandro,” said Wanderers Executive Chairman, Lyall Gorman.
“At no stage did the Wanderers prepare or make an offer to the player-s representatives, nor did FFA. This is mischief making that should not be printed as fact.
“We congratulate Sydney FC for concluding the agreement with Alessandro Del Piero and look forward to seeing him at Parramatta Stadium on 20 October for the first ever Hyundai A-League Sydney derby.”
