NPL 2 Preview: Mounties v Wanderers

Al-Taay

Western Sydney Wanderers will be aiming for back-to-back wins when they take on Mounties Wanderers in Round 4 of the NSW NPL 2 season.

Although technically an away fixture, Wanderers will feel right at home with Saturday’s local derby taking place at Wanderers Football Park.

Patrick Zwaanswijk’s side will fancy themselves to build on last week’s result, a dominant 3-1 win over Northern Tigers.

While last year’s runners-up provided a stern test for the Red and Black at a soaking Wanderers Football Park, the home side backed themselves and executed a flawless short passing game.

The result was some mesmerising play and three skillful goals from Dean Pelekanos, Kosta Grozos and Isaac Hovar. An attack that had looked a little disjointed in Round 2 turned it on a week later and put the Tigers to the sword.

Mounties meanwhile have endured a tough start to their 2021 campaign. Despite a Round 1 win, the Mount Pritchard side have since suffered 7-2 and 6-0 losses to Central Coast Mariners and NWS Spirit respectively.

They were forced to withdraw from the COVID-affected 2020 season and as such remain somewhat of an unknown quantity for opposition teams. They will however be desperate to return to the winners’ circle, making them a dangerous opponent for the Red and Black.

Saturday’s match begins at 7:00pm at Wanderers Football Park. Make sure you keep an eye on Twitter for live match coverage.
