NPL 2 Preview: Southern Districts Raiders v Wanderers

NPL

Western Sydney Wanderers will be aiming to get back to winning ways when they take on Southern Districts Raiders in Round 8 of the NSW NPL 2 season.

The Red & Black suffered their first loss in five matches last Saturday, going down in a 3-2 thriller against St George City FA.

Facing a 3-0 deficit at half-time, Patrick Zwaanswijk’s side rallied and pulled two goals back through Peter Grozos and Ali Auglah.

Despite ultimately falling short there was a lot to like about Western Sydney’s comeback and the side will back themselves to return to the winners’ circle when they travel to Ernie Smith Reserve.

Auglah will once again be key to the Wanderers’ hopes of taking home all three points. The up and coming striker has notched an impressive six goals so far this campaign and was at it again on the weekend, audaciously lobbing the goalkeeper from range.

Western Sydney will also be boosted by the return of defender Nectarios Triantis after he served a one game suspension for a red card.

Their opponents meanwhile find themselves at the opposite end of the ladder after enduring a tough start to the season.

The Raiders sit in 11th place having won just once in 2021 and will be desperate for a positive result to kick-start their season.

The match kicks off at 6:30pm at Ernie Smith Reserve. Make sure you keep an eye on Twitter for match updates.
