NPL 2 Preview: Western Sydney Wanderers v Blacktown Spartans

Awaritefe

Western Sydney Wanderers could go top of the NSW NPL 2 ladder when they host Blacktown Spartans on Sunday.

Wanderers currently sit in second position on the ladder, just two behind leaders NWS Spirit, and will go top if they win and Spirit lose.

For Patrick Zwaanswijk’s side however the focus will be fully on Blacktown when they take to the pitch at Wanderers Football Park.

The Red && Black are coming off a thrilling 3-2 win over Hakoah Sydney City East with super-sub Reuben Awaritefe rising to head home a dangerous cross with injury time looming.

Also on the scoresheet for the home side were Alessandro Lopane and Ali Auglah with the latter’s goal taking him atop the scoring charts.

Their opponents on Sunday afternoon sit in 10th position with three wins for the season. Spartans are coming off a 3-0 loss to Hills United and will need a win to keep in touch with the top five. Blacktown have struggled in front of goal so far, only troubling the scoreboard on eight occasions.

Wanderers meanwhile have been growing in confidence with six wins in the last seven games. Auglah will once again be the danger man for Spartans’ defence although the likes of Lochlan Constable, Issac Hovar and Jarrod Carluccio have provided excellent service in wide areas this season.

The match kicks off at 1:00pm at Wanderers Football Park. Make sure you keep an eye on Twitter for match updates.
