NPL Preview: Hills United vs Wanderers

On Saturday night, the Western Sydney Wanderers will take on Hills United at Lily Homes Stadium and will have the opportunity to move ahead of Hills on the table with a victory.

The Wanderers previous meeting against Hills, back in Round 5, ended in a 4-1 triumph for the Red & Black.

NPL 2 top scorer Mohamed Adam netted a double that afternoon while Marley Peterson and Daniel Wilmering also got on the scoresheet.

Coached by former Central Coast Mariner Patrick Zwaanswijk, Hills are second on the table and are two points ahead of the Red & Black.

The Red & Black will have to watch out for their top scorer Daniel Fogarty who has 11 goals to his name for the season, including one in last week’s 2-1 loss to league leaders North Shore Mariners.

The Wanderers backline could be boosted in the future by up-and-coming centre back Wallum Watt.

A former Sydney United player, Watt was part of the Wanderers U18 Championship winning side in 2017 and scored in that year’s Grand Final.

After moving up to the U20 team and becoming a regular starter in that grade, Watt made his NPL 2 1st Grade debut on Saturday against Macarthur Rams.

In attack, recent arrival Evan Tsakos has already made an impression. Tsakos joined the U20 side last month and after a handful of appearances was also given his 1st Grade debut on the weekend.

Normally played on the wing, the Box Hill local played his junior football for both Blacktown City and Mt Druitt Town Rangers.
