NPL Preview: Macarthur vs Wanderers

The Western Sydney Wanderers will be hoping to tighten their grip on first place in NPL 2 when they take on Macarthur Rams at Lynwood Park on Saturday night.

The Wanderers leapt to the top of table after last week’s 3-1 win against the Central Coast Mariners thanks to goals from Matthew Lecce, Kyle Cimenti and Charles Abou Serhal.

Trevor Morgan’s young side have now scored 26 goals in nine games so far this season, with an impressive 15 different players getting their names on the scoresheet.

Macarthur meanwhile, after an indifferent start to the season which saw them go winless in the first five rounds, are now on a four-match unbeaten run after last week’s 4-2 win against Bankstown Berries.

Forward Mason Versi scored a brace in that game to bring his season tally to six and will carry much of the Rams’ attacking responsibility against a Wanderers defence who have only conceded 13 goals.

The Rams are sitting in 10th place though are just two points off the top five but will need to put in their best performance of the season if they are to trouble the high-flying Wanderers.
