NPL Preview: Mounties vs Wanderers

This Easter Sunday, the Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 2 team will face Mounties at Sydney United Sports Centre and will be looking to build on the momentum from last weekend’s win over Rydalmere.

Mounties are coached by Kevin Harper, who has had previous experience playing in both the English and Scottish Premier Leagues.

The Mt Pritchard-based outfit are also coming off a win heading into the match, having defeated Parramatta FC 4-1 on Sunday night.

Their key player is striker Matthew West, who has returned to the club after spending last season with APIA Leichhardt.

West is a proven goalscorer at this level and won the NPL 2 Player of the Year Award in 2016.

For the Red & Black, midfielder Fabian Monge will be one to watch.

The 16-year-old was signed to the club’s Foxtel Y-league squad for the 2017/18 season after previously playing for Marconi.

Monge was also part of the Young Socceroos squad that qualified for this year’s AFC U-19 Championship.

Elliot Carwardine is another player that has caught the eye after making an impressive debut last weekend. The young goalkeeper, who turns 18 on Easter Sunday, played for Northern Tigers in 2017 before signing with the Red & Black for the last Foxtel Y-League season.

The last game between these two sides was back in May 2017 and it ended in a 1-1 draw. Kyle Cimenti was the goalscorer for the Wanderers on that night.
