NPL Preview: North Shore Mariners vs Wanderers

The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 2 team will be looking to get back to winning ways this Sunday when they travel to Northbridge Oval to take on North Shore Mariners.

The Red & Black will be aiming for a repeat of their previous result against the North Shore outfit where a Mohamed Adam double led the side to a 2-1 victory back in Round 1.

However, North Shore Mariners are expected to pose a stern test for the Red & Black.

The Mariners are undefeated in their last nine games and moved to the top of NPL 2 table last weekend after defeating Spirit FC 3-0.

North Shore striker Mitchell Smith scored in that game to take his tally to 12 goals for the season, while the Mariners have the stingiest defence in the league as well.

The U20s will also be looking to bounce back on Sunday after a defeat last weekend and they have a few players who have consistently impressed over the last couple of years.

One of them is Nicolas Milanovic, who was a part of the Wanderers U16 squad at the start of last year.

The midfielder then moved up an age group, scoring eight goals in 17 games during the U18 side’s run to last year’s Grand Final.

A former Sydney United player, Milanovic has been promoted again recently and is now starting for the U20 side.

Angelo Kalamvokis has also risen rapidly through the ranks in recent seasons. Normally used as a central defender, Kalamvokis played junior football for Sydney Olympic before switching to the Red & Black in 2017.

The Westfields Sports High School student featured in almost every game for the U18s last season and is currently a regular member of our U20 team.
