NPL Preview: Spirit FC v WSW

Kyle Cimenti’s hat-trick wasn’t enough for a young Wanderers side to avoid a 4-3 defeat to Mt Druitt Town Rangers last Saturday but Trevor Morgan’s side will look to respond with three points when they face Spirit FC in Round 13’s rescheduled fixture tonight.

KICK-OFF: Spirit FC v Western Sydney Wanderers. 7pm Tuesday at Christie Park

The two teams met in Round 1 of the competition in what was to be a sensational National Premier Leagues debut for the Wanderers with six second half goals, including five from substitute Lachlan Scott, putting the reigning PS4 NPL2 NSW champions to the sword as the Red & Black won 6-0 at Blacktown Football Park.

It has since proven to be an indifferent campaign for the Macquarie Park outfit. Key losses in the firepower department in the form of serial handful Gosue Sama (Parramatta FC) and leading marksmen in Abraham Majok and Kuag Reec (both now at Mt Druitt Town Rangers) has seen Spirit struggle for goals which has seen a slide down to 13th in the ladder.

The Mark McCormick-coached side have been held scoreless at Christie Park on four occasions this season but have scored eight in their last three, including a 4-2 triumph over promotion outsiders Marconi over a fortnight ago.

They come into the game on the back of a 4-2 defeat to competition leaders Sydney FC, but will sniff a chance to strike at a Wanderers side reeling from several notable omissions and a sapping ninety minutes against Mt Druitt.
