NPL Preview: Wanderers vs North Shore Mariners

Thumbnail

The Western Sydney Wanderers will face North Shore Mariners this Saturday night at Sydney United Sports Centre and will be hoping to get back to winning ways after last week’s defeat to Mt Druitt.

With North Shore in sixth position on the ladder, only one position below the Wanderers, the match will be crucial as both sides look to stay in contention for a finals place.

The men from the North Shore will also be looking to bounce back after a loss to Parramatta FC on Sunday night.

North Shore Mariners have shown the ability to threaten opposing defences with ten different players finding the back of the net this season.

For the Red & Black, Mathieu Cordier will be one to watch. Able to play at either left back or centre back, the former Football NSW Institute and Blacktown City player joined the Wanderers for the 2015/16 Foxtel Y-League season.

Cordier then progressed into the first-grade squad for the 2016 NPL 2 season and the 19-year-old was also part of the Wanderers side that won the 2017/18 Foxtel Y-League Grand Final.

Jack Greenwood is another player to watch. After previously playing for Central Coast and Spirit FC, the 18-year-old goalkeeper made his Wanderers Academy debut last Sunday and made a number of good saves in the match.

The last time we met North Shore Mariners was in Round 1. A double from Abraham Majok and a goal from Lachlan Scott was not enough as we went down 4-3.
