NPL Preview: Wanderers vs Spartans

The Western Sydney Wanderers will be looking to get back to winning ways this Saturday night when they take on Blacktown Spartans at Sydney United Sports Centre.

The Red & Black have a solid record against the Spartans, with three wins and a draw in their last four meetings.

Spartans have a record of one win and one loss so far this season with their most recent result a narrow 1-0 defeat to Macarthur Rams.

Blacktown may also have some familiar faces at the match with former Wanderers Academy players Evan Patramanis and Malcolm Ward expected to line up for the opponents.

For the Wanderers, midfielder Lochlan Constable will be keen to make an impression against his former club.

Constable played his junior football for both Spartans and Sydney United before joining the Wanderers Academy.

The Glenmore Park local is still only 17 year’s old but has been involved in the Wanderers NPL 2 first grade team for almost two years and scored on his first grade debut against North Shore Mariners in May 2017.

John Roberts will be another player to watch on Saturday.

Formerly of the FFA Centre of Excellence, the pacey forward joined the Wanderers in January 2018 from Melbourne City.

Roberts was also part of the Wanderers squad that played in the previous two Foxtel Y-League Grand Finals, while he was also selected in the Young Socceroos squad for last October’s AFC U19 Championship.
