NPL Wrap: Wanderers defeat Parramatta FC

The Western Sydney Wanderers have defeated Parramatta FC 3-1 in their NSW NPL 2 match on Sunday night at Sydney United Sports Centre.

Goals from Kosta Grozos, Mohamed Adam, and John Roberts secured the Wanderers fifth win in seven games.

The Red & Black were dominant early with Adrian Valenti embarking on a mazy run that saw him surge past three defenders before being stopped on the edge of the penalty area.

On the 17th minute mark, Roberts played in a nice ball behind Parramatta’s defence with Adam lobbing the ball over the goalkeeper to open the scoring.

Grozos was the next to threaten the Parramatta goal, volleying just wide from 20-yards out.

Wanderers goalkeeper Daniel Axford also stepped up, pulling off an incredible double save to keep the Red & Black in front.

With halftime approaching, Parramatta FC equalised when Neram Yalda scored from the edge of penalty area.

However, just as it looked like the teams would go into the break on level terms, Grozos blasted the ball into the top corner from 25-yards out, putting the Wanderers 2-1 in front.

Adam went close again early in the second half, dribbling around the goalkeeper only to be denied by a goalline clearance.

Wanderers substitute Samuel Silvera looked lively after coming on, forcing Parramatta goalkeeper Stefan Giglio into a good save after cutting in from the left flank.

Roberts then found Silvera with a fantastic pass but Giglio was able to make another save.

Three minutes from the end of regular time, Adam and Roberts combined again to make the game safe.

This time Adam was the provider, beating a defender and playing it through to Roberts who calmly rounded the goalkeeper before slotting the ball into an empty net.

Grozos then tried to replicate his long-distance strike from last week after spotting the keeper off his line, but Giglio saved well.

The result sees the Wanderers move into fifth place on the NSW NPL 2 table and emphatic victories for the Academies U18 and U20 sides meant it was a perfect day for the Red & Black.

The Wanderers will now switch their focus to Saturday night’s clash against Macarthur Rams at Lynwood Park. Kick-off is at 7pm.
