The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 2 team went down 3-0 to Central Coast Mariners in their NPL 2 match at Pluim Park on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Emmanuel Peters, Charles William and Kyle Johnson earned victory for Mariners while the Red & Black remain in the 10th place.

The Mariners took the lead in the second minute with Peters scoring from close range.

Central Coast were on the attack soon afterwards, but Noah Pagden positioned himself well to clear the danger.

The Wanderers did well to get themselves back into the game with Samuel Silvera pouncing on a loose ball before forcing a save from Mariners goalkeeper Adam Pearce.

At the other end, Wanderers goalkeeper Daniel Axford was called into action a few times in the first half, including one brilliant save where he dived low to his right to deny Peters.

The Red & Black made a bright start to the second half and Joshua Gulevski almost got on the end of Silvera’s cross, but Pearce was able to claim the ball.

Oliver Puflett then laid the ball off for Tacettin Kumsuz, who tested Pearce with a stinging shot from distance.

There was a close call after a scramble in the penalty area with the ball being cleared off the line, but unfortunately, the Wanderers were hit on the counter a few minutes later with William doubling Central Coast’s lead.

With the game getting stretched, there were opportunities at both ends. Davies made a vital block to stop a Mariners attack while Axford showed safe hands to hold onto a curling long-range shot.

Silvera then thought he had pulled one back for the Wanderers late on, but his curling free-kick was clawed away from the top corner by Pearce.

It wasn’t to be the Wanderers day and Central Coast wrapped up the scoring in the final minute with another goal on the counter, this time from Kyle Johnson.

In the earlier games, the U20 side won 2-0 while the U18 team were defeated 1-0.

Next Saturday, the Wanderers NPL 2 side will be back at Sydney United Sports Centre to play Spirit FC. Kick-off is at 7:00pm.
