NPL Wrap: Wanderers slay St George

The Western Sydney Wanderers have maintained their grip on second place in NPL 2 after a 5-2 thumping of St George on Saturday night at Seymour Shaw Park.

The game was poised at 2-2 at the hour mark though a second half blitz from the Red & Black saw them claim their fifth win of the season.

The Wanderers took the lead via Oliver Puflett midway through the first half, before St George’s Tarik Ercan equalised just minutes later.

A 37th minute goal from Mathieu Cordier ensured the Wanderers would go into the break 2-1 but a Juan Carlos Chavez effort drew things level after the break.

The last 30 minutes though was all Red & Black, as a double from Kosta Grozos and an Emmanuel Gonzalez secured an emphatic 5-2 win.

The Wanderers will look to keep the pressure on league leaders Marconi Stallions when they welcome Central Coast Mariners to Blacktown Football Park on Saturday night.
