NPL Wrap: Wanderers snap Spartans streak

The Western Sydney Wanderers are now one point off first place in NPL 2 after knocking off the previously undefeated Blacktown Spartans 2-0 at Sydney United Sports Centre on Saturday night.

A pair of second half goals from substitute Kyle Cimenti sealed the win for the Wanderers, who move into second spot on the ladder, one point behind Spartans.

The Wanderers controlled much of the match through their usual possession-based approach though Spartans were solid defensively and were dangerous springing forward on the counter.

In the 78th minute it was Cimenti, on his return from injury, who broke the deadlock, tapping home a cross from Abraham Majok.

Blacktown pushed to grab an equaliser in the last 10 minutes though Cimenti put the game to bed with his second strike of the match in stoppage time.

The result sees the Wanderers continue their undefeated start to the season ahead of next Sunday’s clash with Hills Brumbies at Lilys Football Centre.

It capped off what was a perfect weekend for the Red & Black youth, who picked up wins in every grade, scoring 32 goals and only conceding one in the process.
