OPTA Data: Top stats ahead of City clash

OPTA Data have crunched the numbers ahead of Friday night’s clash against Melbourne City at AAMI Park.

  • Western Sydney Wanderers FC have won their last three A-League games in succession, the last time they enjoyed a longer winning streak was a seven-match span from November to December in 2015. 
  • Melbourne City have only lost one of their last seven A-League games against Western Sydney (W5,D1), a 3-0 loss in March 2019.
  • Western Sydney Wanderers (7) and Melbourne City (6) have scored the most and second most goals by any team between the 46th and 60th minute of games this A-League season.

  • Melbourne City (16) have made the most interceptions per game of any team in the 2020/21 A-League season; Western Sydney (15) are ranked third in this category.
  • Melbourne City have scored 22 goals from inside the box this A-League season, the joint-most by any team (also Adelaide United) and three more than Western Sydney (19) in this category.
  • Tate Russell has made 14 metres per carry from his 176 carries this season A-League season, the most of any player to have made at least 50 carries.
