Outcome of independent Match Review Panel – Round 2, Hyundai A-League 2018/19

The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Con Diomis and Adam D’Apuzzo – convened on Monday, 29 October 2018 to consider an incident involving Markus Babbel (Western Sydney Wanderers – Team Official) (Babbel) in or around the 63rd minute of Western Sydney Wanderers FC’s Hyundai A-League Round 2 Match against Sydney FC on Saturday, 27 October 2018.

The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Con Diomis and Adam D’Apuzzo – convened on Monday, 29 October 2018 to consider an incident involving Markus Babbel (Western Sydney Wanderers – Team Official) (Babbel) in or around the 63rd minute of Western Sydney Wanderers FC’s Hyundai A-League Round 2 Match against Sydney FC on Saturday, 27 October 2018.  

The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Babbel was issued with a direct Red Card by the Referee.  

The MRP determined that Babbel had committed the offence of use of offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures against a Match Official. The MRP confirmed that Babbel will serve a suspension of one (1) match, being the minimum sanction for the offence.  

The club has accepted the one match sanction.
