The Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League competitions will celebrate Play Football Round this weekend to encourage junior football participation and registration across the country for the upcoming grassroots season.

To kick off the week. Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League clubs across Australia will provide registered junior players aged between 5 & 16 with special ticket offers to watch their heroes in action.

FFA CEO David Gallop AM was once again looking forward to the annual event that recognises and promotes grassroots football in Australia.

“The Play Football Round aligns with our mission of becoming the largest and most popular sport in Australia by connecting our grassroots participants to the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League,” said FFA CEO David Gallop.

“The latest update of the AusPlay participation results showed that there are approximately 1.094 million girls & boys, Women & Men playing football making it the most popular club participation sport in Australia.

“During Play Football Round, clubs will be engaging with their local Member Federations and grassroots clubs through different community events.

“At each match this weekend there will also be different activations featuring grassroots clubs and players getting involved pre-match in the precinct and on the field during half time.”

“Last weekend, we saw some of the most entertaining football of the season with some incredible come from behind wins by Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory and there were goals galore, with 23 scored across the five Hyundai A-League matches as well as Melbourne Victory claiming the Westfield W-League Premiership.

“This weekend we look forward to the first week of the Westfield W-League 2019 Finals Series and another exciting round of the Hyundai A-League with a top of the table clash between Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory and the return of Caltex Socceroo Jamie McLaren who is set to possibly make his home debut for Melbourne City FC.

“There is no better way to get inspired for the upcoming Football season than by watching a Hyundai A-League or Westfield W-League match either at the ground or on TV,” concluded Gallop.
