Popovic: Anything less than what we did in Seoul won’t be enough

Tony Popovic says the squad is aiming to take another step towards the AFC Champions League knockout stages with a win in tonight’s clash against FC Seoul at Campbelltown Stadium.

Tickets are still available for our clash against FC Seoul.

With Jaushua Sotirio being the only player battling injury, Popovic has a full squad to choose from and says that his troops are heading into the match with the right mentality.

“The players are very confident, they’re physically in great shape, they know they’re playing well and now they’re getting rewarded for their good performances and we want that to continue.

“We know it won’t be easy as they are a fantastic side but they haven’t got the results they want either in the ACL.

“We have to be at our best. Anything less than what we did in Seoul won’t be enough,” he said.

With the Wanderers’ facing a quick turnaround after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Melbourne Victory, Popovic anticipates that he will have to make some changes to the starting XI tonight.

“We will make some changes but whoever we put out there will be going into the game to do everything we can to win.

“We did that in Seoul, we had a lot of players that you may have expected to start that game that didn’t. The young boys came in and did a fantastic job and we got the three points.

“We’ll be looking to try and continue on in this competition. e know that tomorrow night is an important game,” said Popovic.

The Wanderers currently have an undefeated record against FC Seoul and arguably have the mental advantage over the Koreans but Popovic says he’ll have his side preparing for the match like any other.

“We will go into the game believing that we can win and that’s no different to any other opponent but we will have to start with the right intensity and intent,” he said.
