Pre-season friendlies for Wanderers NPL team

Having made their first foray into the world of NPL last Sunday when Western Sydney Wanderers defeated Marconi Stallions 8-0, the Red & Black will continue their pre-season preparations with a host of friendlies.

Having made their first foray into the world of NPL last Sunday when Western Sydney Wanderers defeated Marconi Stallions 8-0, the Red & Black will continue their pre-season preparations with a host of friendlies.

Following a comprehensive review of the NPL structure in May last year, it was decided that the Western Sydney Wanderers, along with Sydney FC would enter the NSW NPL2 with the tier expanding from 12 to 14 teams.
 
It all kicks-off again this Thursday 4 February when Wanderers take on Mt Druitt Town Rangers at Popondetta Park. Kick-off for the NPL side is 8pm with U20s featuring at 6pm. The two clubs last met in pre-season where the Hyundai A-League squad defeated Rangers 3-0.

Following Mt Druitt, Wanderers then meet regular foes Macarthur Rams onThursday 11 Feburary at the renovated and newly articifial Lynwood Park.
 
The Wanderers will also meet APIA Leichhardt on Sunday 14 February after the sides last met during preparations for the current Hyundai A-League season. The Wanderers were 2-1 victors on the night with Federico Piovaccari and Romeo Castelen on target.
 
It was in the club’s first few months of existence that the Wanderers played Sydney United 58 last in a return to Tony Popovic’s old stomping ground. The NPL team will square up to United once more on Sunday 21 February before completing pre-season against St. George FC on Sunday 28 February, in what will be the first meeting between the two clubs.
