Pre-season wrap: Wanderers draw with Wellington

A Keanu Baccus screamer has provided a superb highlight in the Wanderers 1-1 draw with Wellington Phoenix this afternoon.

With the Wanderers down 1-0 after former Wanderer Jaushua Sotirio had scored for the visitors on the 54th minute, Baccus took it upon himself to haul the Red & Black onto level terms with a stunning strike from 25-metres.

The Wanderers showed excellent commitment in the second half to come back, dominating much of the difficult and hard-fought encounter.

The effort was made even more pleasing as coach Markus Babbel emptied his bench on the hour, making eight changes to the starting line-up with all the substitutes coming from the Wanderers Academy.

Al-Taay

A well organised Phoenix made life tough for the Wanderers in the first 45 minutes with goalkeeper Dani Lopar kept busy, making several outstanding saves.

The Red & Black also created chances thanks to Raddy Majewski who provided some quality distribution, including setting up Kwame Yeboah early in the second half.

Yeboah was forced wide after rounding keeper Nebo Marinovic, who had come out of his box, before his curling attempt went wide of the right post. Marinovic also made two exceptional saves to deny Yeboah earlier in the match.

Wanderers starting XI: Daniel LOPAR, Tarek ELRICH, Dylan McGOWAN, Mohamed AL-TAAY, Pirmin SCHWEGLER, Lochlan CONSTABLE, Daniel GEORGIEVSKI, Radoslaw MAJEWSKI, Daniel WILMERING, Mo ADAM and Kwame YEBOAH.
Substitutes: Mathieu CORDIER, Tass MOURDOUKOUTAS, Bruce KAMAU, Keanu BACCUS, Fabian MONGE, Jarrod CARLUCCIO, Jake TREW, Nicholas SUMAN and Jack GREENWOOD.
