Risdon enjoys first day at World Cup™ base

Having touched down at Kazan International Airport in the early afternoon, the Caltex Socceroos have today taken time to settle into their new tournament base.

The Trudovye Rezervy Stadium will be the Caltex Socceroos’ home away from home for the duration of the FIFA World Cup™.

While also serving as a decadent live-in venue, the stadium, home to Russian ice hockey champions Ak Bars Kazan, is flush with professional medical and recovery facilities.

Australia won’t be the only nation basing themselves in Kazan for the tournament, with Colombia and Japan also grounded nearby.

Bert van Marwijk’s side arrived at their new tournament base in the afternoon and were greeted by a fleet of Russian dancers who performed a traditional Tatarstan welcome.

The players were also offered ‘chak-chak’ – a fried honey cake with almonds home to the Tatarstan region, before finally settling into their temporary home.

The side will hold an open training session for fans tomorrow afternoon.
