Josh Risdon says the desire to play in the Hyundai A-League finals will ensure the Western Sydney Wanderers bring their best in Saturday’s do-or-die clash against Brisbane Roar.

Heading into the Round 26 clash at ANZ Stadium, the Wanderers find themselves in seventh position on the ladder, two points behind sixth-placed Roar.

A defeat would bring an end to the Wanderers’ top-six hopes, meaning the finals have come a fortnight early for Josep Gombau’s men.

“We’re still very positive,” Risdon told www.a-league.com.au at the launch of the Caltex Socceroos new playing kit on Thursday night.

“It’s obviously been an up and down season for us.

“But we’re just focusing on these last two games, in particular against Roar this weekend. It’s do-or-die for us, if we lose we’re out.

“We’re going to be doing our best to win because we really want to play finals.”

Despite some inconsistencies this season, Risdon believes the team is starting to find their groove under Gombau.

While they slumped to a 3-1 loss to Melbourne Victory last weekend, the 25-year-old feels the manner of the performance should instil fear into Brisbane.

“We’ve shown it [our best form] in glimpses,” Risdon said.

“Even though the result wasn’t the best for us last weekend, we still played very well, we were unlucky and the scoreline doesn’t really reflect how well we played against such a good side.

“If we can keep doing that and if we can win these last two games and go into the finals with a bit of momentum, then anything can happen.”

The Wanderers and Roar have met twice this season, with one win apiece.
