The Western Sydney Wanderers have lost 1-0 to Brisbane Roar in Round 3 of the Westfield W-League on Friday night at Marconi Stadium.

A lone goal by Carson Pickett was enough to secure the win for the Roar, who bounced back from last week’s loss to Perth Glory.

The Wanderers started off strong with Marlous Pieëte sprinting down the left flank only to have her cutback fired over the crossbar by Kahlia Hogg.

Jada Whyman was called into action and dove out of the box to deny Brisbane.

The Roar found the opener in the 30th minute after Pickett’s free-kick evaded the Wanderers’ defence.

Rosie Sutton showed glimpses of the equaliser, trying to work her way through Brisbane’s defence, but sadly none of her chances converted.

The Roar’s MacKenzie Arnold struggled to palm away a powerful strike from Lee Falkon after it was deflected.

Ellie Brush denied the Roar from extending their lead, intercepting and clearing, a ball that was headed in the path of the goal.

Brisbane held on for the win with the Wanderers now switching their focus to their next clash against Melbourne Victory on November 24 at Lakeside Stadium.
