Round 19 Preview: Wanderers vs Mariners

The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers will be looking to cement their place in the top six this Sunday when they take on the Central Coast Mariners at Spotless Stadium.

The Red & Black have cracked the top six following last Saturday’s win over the Wellington Phoenix and will be needing a victory on Sunday to continue their push up the ladder.

With only nine rounds remaining of the regular season, the Mariners are sitting ninth on the table and a win for them would provide a massive boost to their finals aspirations.

Tickets to the game are still available here.

Both clubs are coming off the back of confident victories last round: the Wanderers put in a fantastic performance against the Phoenix in their 3-1 win across the ditch, whilst the Mariners will be riding high on momentum after defeating Adelaide United for what was their second consecutive win.

The Wanderers are undefeated in their last five games against the Mariners and have scored four goals in a game on two of the last three occasions against them.

In their last meeting in Round 9 of this season, the Wanderers defeated the Mariners 4-1 in Gosford after goals from Jumpei Kusukami, Nicolás Martínez, Brendon Santalab and an own goal by Mariner Jake McGing.

Wanderer Mitch Nichols has returned to the squad for the Wanderers and if selected, is set to play in his 200th Hyundai A-League match.

Defender Scott Neville also returns from suspension to bolster the Wanderers defence.
