Santalab: There’s a lot more to play for than just three points

Brendon Santalab says the team’s focus this week has been on building on their strengths ahead of Saturday night’s blockbuster against Melbourne Victory at ANZ Stadium.

Tickets are still available for Saturday night’s clash here

With only two rounds left until the start of the finals series, the Red & Black are in the middle of a winning run that Santalab believes has them raring to go ahead of tomorrow night’s clash with Victory.

“Going into the finals, everybody would like momentum.

“I think there’s a lot more to play for than just three points,” said Santalab.

The Wanderers recent winning formula is something that Santalab and the squad are planning to replicate tomorrow night.

“[We’re going to] continue what we’ve been doing, playing at a high tempo and scoring goals.

“Obviously that’s what we’ve been doing well, so we will continue to build on our strengths and work on a few things we weren’t happy about against Newcastle.

“Our intensity, desire and hunger to win has been fantastic,” he said.

Victory will be coming off the back of a heavy defeat at home to Wellington Phoenix, though come into the match having won both of the previous meetings against the Wanderers this season.

Yet Santalab is confident that his side can secure the three points this time around and continue their rich vein of form.

“We are well aware that they had a heavy loss at home where nobody thought that Wellington could beat them.

“We think they’ll come out firing and we have to match them early on in the game.

“I think where we are at the moment we can finish the game strongly,” he said.
